Dental Hygiene & Cleaning

Good Oral Hygiene is the road to healthy gums and preventing any unwanted diseases. Studies have shown poor oral hygiene is related to build up of plaque and tartar around the teeth and the gums. Plaque and tartar harvest bacteria, which in turn can lead to inflammation and infection of the gums, and furthermore damage the supporting tissues of the teeth. These are called Gingivitis and Periodontitis, respectively. Plaque also plays a part in creating holes in the tooth (decay), which may lead to infection within the tooth. Not only this, poor oral hygiene can lead to bad breath (halitosis), and aesthetically displeasing gums and teeth. This in turn leads to an AGING SMILE!

The maintenance of oral hygiene is critical in a healthy mouth. An effective oral hygiene routine should include:

  • Brushing twice a day for 2 minutes

  • Floss after every meal

  • Regular dental visits every 6 months

At regular dental visits your experienced dentist will check the health of your teeth and gums, clean your teeth (remove plaque and tartar) and apply a protective fluoride coating to your teeth to strengthen them against decay.
